  Gluten and vaccination conspiracies

Theresa May is on the brink of triggering Article 50 as the executive of the British people initiates divorce proceedings with the EU. Everyone in Britain, regardless of their position on referendum day last year, wants an outcome that improves rather than worsens their lives. That shared desire has contributed to a level of interaction and debate among previously disparate parts of society that is unprecedented, certainly in my lifetime.

In our microcosm, working as hard as we can to try to secure a better future for natural health and individual empowerment, it’s amazing to witness the degree to which agreements and alliances can be forged, even with those with whom our differences, in the past, kept us separated.

The changes in people’s sense of empowerment — even if this occasionally means we are exposed to those whose views we find repugnant — is probably the most exciting marker of the recent changes brought on by Brexit and Donald Trump’s election.

My greatest hope is that this tendency is expressed so fully that many of the heavy-handed, tyrannical tendencies of governments that have ridden rough shod over democratic principles and individual sovereignty, are outed and eliminated – by popular demand.

This week’s stories are about how small, highly influential groups of scientists, often linked directly, unwittingly or simply philosophically, to large corporations with powerful vested interests, are used to try to change our minds. The public interest in reducing either gluten consumption or the number of vaccinations received by children are specific cases in point, and these are the subjects of this week’s main stories.

Check out what we have to say – and if you like what you’re reading, please share widely. Awareness about what’s going on behind the news we read is key. And that doesn’t necessarily make it worthless conspiracy theory. This week, in our piece on conspiracies, you’ll benefit from some insights from leading UK health journalist, Jerome Burne.
