  Nutrition for Life

The news in our UK papers today is that the expectancy of a healthy life for women in the leafy, more affluent suburbs of Richmond upon Thames in Surrey is 15 years longer than for those in the economically challenged, densely urban Tower Hamlets area of London. Quite clearly it’s not access to conventional medicine or pharmaceuticals that makes the real difference.

A diverse and varied diet teamed with good lifestyle choices, adequate activity and time out for social and personal pursuits is far more powerful (preventative) medicine than any drug on the market. Timely then that our first story this week is about the opening of a unique community offering that includes a ‘food as medicine’ bar and restaurant with an educational teaching kitchen alongside an integrative medicine clinic.  Enter the Tri-Health community offering that houses The Willow (pub and food), Bluesky Connexions (education and learning) and Irrefutable Health (intergrative medicine clinic). It's also the UK’s first 100% fully gluten free pub and restaurant, and its offerings have been guided by ANH's Food4Health guidelines!

We stay with the food theme for our second story where Rob Verkerk PhD and Finn Murray, of the Hopsack health food store in Dublin, went head to head with the Flynn brothers of the The Happy Pear 'dynasty' in Dublin, Ireland, on the subject of meat in the human diet. The Flynn brothers are dedicated vegans and have a devoted following, Rob and Finn were faced with a tall order in defence of omnivory. You might be suprised by the audience's votes at the end of the evening...

It wouldn’t be an ANH eAlert if we didn’t include our weekly raft of top news items for your bite-size, time challenged reading pleasure.

In health, naturally
