  UK election and brain plasticity

Among the British voters who’re undecided about how to vote in tomorrow’s General Election, you might find our excursion through the various parties’ manifestos helpful. The biggest travesty to democracy would be a low electoral turn-out. With a good turn-out, whatever the result, it’s a matter of pulling together and creating the best outcomes possible.

In a country still reverberating from two recent terror attacks, anything could happen. But inspiration is in the air, perhaps epitomised by the heartfelt performance by Parrs Wood High School choir at Ariana Grande’s benefit concert last weekend. It was a performance that outshone, in many people’s eyes, the many international performers present. The people are speaking – and tomorrow they will be heard.

More than ever, we need neural plasticity to cope with our rapidly changing world. Not only is the world around us changing, the world within us is changing too. As reflected by skyrocketing rates of neurodegenerative diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s, we’re losing our neural plasticity. The best solution doesn’t involve drugs, it’s about natural health, yet the bulk of the medical profession remains mute in the (unlikely) hope that an effective drug will soon become available. The problem is further exacerbated by an increasingly top-heavy age structure. This was the theme of this year’s Institute for Functional Medicine annual conference and Meleni Aldridge was there, in Los Angeles, to learn, engage and report. In her piece, she offers a series of pearls gleaned from the many internationally-recognised clinicians and researchers present. Important health advice: implement without delay – and it’s never too late to start!

Tomorrow, at least in the UK, is not just another day. It’s election day. British citizens – make sure you’re heard.

In health naturally,
