The European associatioon for small businesses, UEAPME, has led the charge in the battle against the European Commissions' proposal on a Regulation for Nutrition and Health Claims.

The key concerns raised by UEAPME, and its UK affiliate, the Forum for Private Business, which are fully endorsed by the ANH, are as follows:

1. Coupling nutrient profiling with H and N claims is illogical and cannot be justified.

2. The seven year ownership of a claim could not be enforced in practice.

3. The proposal would seriously limit the variety of products available to consumers.
