About us

What is the Alliance for Natural Health International?

Our mission is this:

Promoting and protecting our right to sustainable natural health around the world – by working with nature, not against it.

The Alliance for Natural Health International is an internationally active non-governmental organisation promoting natural and sustainable approaches to healthcare worldwide. Our catch cry is ‘love nature, live naturally’.

ANH-Intl campaigns across a wide range of fields, including for freedom of choice in healthcare, healthy eating & lifestyles, and the use of micronutrients and herbal products in the management of our health and resilience. We operate campaigns that include drawing attention to misinformed, Big Food influenced government healthy eating advice, to the uncertain science and risks of genetically modified foods, to the need for informed choice on vaccination and that aim to end mass fluoridation of drinking water supplies. We accomplish our mission through a unique application of ‘good science’ and ‘good law’.

The organisation was founded in 2002 by Dr Robert Verkerk, an internationally acclaimed expert in agricultural and health sustainability. Our international office is based in Dorking, UK, while our US base operates out of Atlanta, Georgia.

Key achievements to date include:

  • Raised public awareness of the significance of legislative threats to the long-term sustainability of natural healthcare
  • Development of a ‘blueprint’ for health system sustainability – to be launched November 2018
  • Made significant amendments to EU legislation through collaboration with Members of the European Parliament
  • Brought the landmark legal challenge to the EU Food Supplements Directive in the High Court London and the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg (2004-5)
  • Promoted rational science as the basis on which safety of nutrients should be assessed at a global level through the Codex Alimentarius Commission
  • Deconstructed flawed approaches to risk assessment and management, which are being used by regulators in an attempt to ban higher, beneficial dosages of natural products
  • Demonstrated clear connections in the disproportionate regulatory management of a wide range of issues ranging from food supplementation, genetically modified (GM) foods, water quality (including fluoridation) and vaccination.
  • Created a united front of common interests across Europe, the North America, Asia and other parts of the world.

Robert Verkerk BSc MSc PhD FACN
Executive & Scientific Director

For over three decades, Rob Verkerk has developed an intimate relationship with the tightropes that span between science and law, between academia and industry, between government and the people—and not least— between humanity’s internal and external environments. He has Masters and Doctorate degrees from Imperial College London, where he also worked as a postdoctoral research fellow for 7 years.

In 2002, Rob founded the Alliance for Natural Health International (ANH-Intl) and has acted as its executive and scientific director since this time. He has directed legal actions to protect the right to natural health and campaigned against drinking water fluoridation and genetically modified crops. He has also been instrumental in exposing the limitations of classical risk analysis as applied by government authorities to foods and natural health products and he is a recognised pioneer in the development of novel, scientifically rational risk/benefit analysis approaches.

Dr Verkerk has authored some 60 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings and contributes regularly to magazines and other popular media. He is an accomplished and inspirational speaker and communicator on a wide range of issues relating to sustainability in healthcare, agriculture, food quality and related fields.
