  From biohacking to agrihacking

The term ‘biohacking’ may have put some of you off from looking any further at the movement. To some it may sound overly-techy, malicious or even dangerous and doesn’t immediately conjure up images of natural and environmental approaches to human and planetary health. Yet our missions share a lot in common because the biohacking movement is all about health optimisation, particularly in response to the health assassination from products produced by Big Pharma and Big Ag.

The demand is clearly there for non-pharma, nutrition and lifestyle driven ‘hacks’ and the global biohacking community is growing rapidly as a result. Our interest was piqued further when we learned that the movement as a whole is repositioning itself as a ‘health optimisation’ movement. Something which resonates completely with our mission at ANH-Intl to co-create sustainable, upstream, citizen-focused, self-care-led, health systems. Read what Rob Verkerk PhD has to say about biohacking/health-optimisation in our lead article this week.

Our second story is about the world's number 1 herbicide; the various formulations based on glyphosate. Monsanto (now owned by chemical giant Bayer) was its original inventor, but life has been more complicated for glyphosate die-hards since the World Health Organization's IARC classified it as a probable human carcinogen and "Lee" Johnson won his cancer case last year against Monsanto. Could a careful look at organic farming techniques that have never relied on glyphosate or a spot of 'agrihacking' provide the solution we all so badly need?
