View this email in your browser     ANH-Intl eAlert No 345 | 29 March 2017         e-ALERT     Glyphosate, Brexit and waste management           EU president Donald Tusk’s words uttered earlier today, “What can I add to this, we already miss you” as he received the Article 50 letter from the UK’s most high profile postman, Sir Tim Barrow, UK ambassador to the EU, have already made headlines around the world. Only history will tell exactly in which ways Mr Tusk will miss the UK’s membership of the troubled EU. Exactly what the UK’s departure will mean for the British public at large, or for different industry sectors, is a matter of guesswork.  This week we look at the European Parliament’s continued pressure to see the blocking of any further extension of the license for use of the world’s number 1 pesticide, glyphosate. Will it go the way of the bee-killing nicotinoids which are being phased out by the EU following public pressure and potent scientific evidence of their lethal effect, especially to bees? Will the UK follow suit, or run contrary to EU policy in support of its chums in Big Biotech and Big Agri? Or can public pressure also be brought bear to create a win for both health and environment?
