Greetings. The pleasure falls to me again this week to bring you the ANH-Intl eAlert. In the coming weeks, you’ll be meeting a few more of the team!
In our lead story this week, we take a look at the diminishing value of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and their use in evidence-based medicine – the main way in which most healthcare decisions are currently made. Are they really the gold standard they are held up to be or has Big Pharma hijacked them?
Our second story looks at the lesser-known link between the health of our gut and our mental health – that’s fast becoming one of the biggest burdens on healthcare systems the world over. Our microbial partners are responsible for a lot more than just digestion. It’s no coincidence that the rise in the fear of infection, antibacterial and antibiotic use, have also kept pace with the rise in depression and anxiety that the World Health Organization claims now to affect around 615 million people, around one-tenth of the world’s population.
As always we bring you news on natural health issues we think will be of interest in this week’s news roundup.
