We’ve been pushing hard on the vaccination issue these last few weeks. That’s because vaccination is increasingly becoming one of the most controversial and fiercely contested interventions in healthcare.
The trouble is when you put foreign substances and compounds directly into a child’s bloodstream, bypassing the gut that is designed to differentiate things that are good or bad for us, you will have some issues. Call them vaccination side effects if you like. Despite recognition that these occur, governments, health authorities and the health professionals that deliver vaccinations, are notoriously tight-lipped about telling people about the known risks.
That has to stop. So we’ve launched a change.org petition to deal with this specific issue. Unlike many of the more controversial areas around vaccination, this debate is a no brainer. It’s winnable. But to win, we need grassroots pressure. That means we need your help to circulate the petition. Find out more below.
Our second story this week is about a very important debate going on in the UK affecting different groups of nutrition specialist, notably dieticians who have long been at loggerheads with nutritional therapists owing to their different approaches to practice. The current debate, now subject to a well-publicised petition, relates to whether the title ‘nutritionist’ should be legally protected via statutory regulation. Some bodies are saying absolutely. But as with so many issues, it’s not black and white. There is a strong case also to maintain the voluntary regulation of nutritional therapists that already exists. Our piece by Meleni Aldridge, our executive coordinator and herself a nutritional therapist, provides some nutrient-dense food for thought. Given that those involved with nutrition in the UK are being asked to sign the petition, we say, read Meleni’s piece before you sign.
