  • Vaping causes similar changes to our DNA as smoking. A new study published in the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology measured DNA methylation (a process that turns genes ‘on’ and ‘off’) in cells in the mouths of young adults who vaped and found similar changes to those in smokers, which can cause the development of disease, including cancer. The findings add to those of another study published earlier this year about the dangers of vaping.

  • An interesting study, published in PLOS One from Australia, finds that people are more likely to believe ‘climate denial claims’ if they’re repeated, even once. The researchers found that repetition made a claim seem more credible whether it was officially endorsed or from a so-called, sceptic source. The last line of the paper is true across the board whether related to climate, covid, monkeypox, the food we eat or a multitude of, what are now deemed to be, controversial subjects; “Do not repeat false information. Instead repeat what is true and enhance its familiarity”. But who decides what is or isn't 'true'? And can we trust them?

  • Should food and drink be routinely fortified with vitamin D? That’s the question asked in a new editorial published in Nutrition Bulletin by the Editor of the bulletin, due to ongoing low levels of vitamin D in the UK population. The problem with fortifying food however, is that it’s dependent on people eating the fortified foods and it’s difficult to control the dosage they receive.

  • Following allegations of corruption in 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) is set to withdraw its proposed controversial guidelines for just two ‘forever chemicals’ in drinking water according to a report in The Guardian. When developing the guidelines, it’s alleged that the WHO ignored virtually all research showing the harms of PFAS chemicals, as it came under pressure from Big industry to 'water' down its recommendations
  • Could 3D printing hold the key to removing PFAS from water? Scientists from UK-based, Bath university, say it can. In a study published in The Chemical Engineering Journal, researchers say using 3D printed lattices (known as monoliths) made of ink infused with indium oxide, which PFAS bonds to, removed at least 75% of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) from contaminated water.

  • Canadians' fighting to protect their unfettered access to natural health products and traditional medicines from draconian restrictions, are being encouraged to support The Charter of Health Freedom and help it become enshrined into Canadian law. Drafted by constitutional lawyer and freedom advocate, Shawn Buckley of the Natural Health Products Association, the Charter seeks to ensure that the rights guaranteed to Canadians in the Constitution and common law heritage isn't ridden roughshod over by the Canadian government
  • Upside Meats is taking legal action to overturn bans by the US states of Alabama and Florida on lab-grown meat enacted in order to protect consumer health. Upside is taking the position that the bans limit consumer freedom of choice as they use slick marketing to cover up the unknown long-term health risks of consuming lab-grown meat.

  • Foremost organic research centre, the Rodale Institute, has published a report detailing results from its decades long Farming Systems Trial (FST), which uses real-world practices and rigorous scientific analysis to show the benefits of organic farming. The Rodale report concludes that organic farming systems match or outperform conventional production systems in terms of crop yield, while providing a range of economic, environmental and agronomic benefits not just for farmers, but consumers and society.

Covid Update

  • A Bill designed to prevent discrimination against Australians not vaccinated against covid has been shot down by the Australian parliament. Opposing the bill, Senator Urquhart called its introduction a ‘stunt’, declaring covid vaccination is ‘voluntary’, ignoring mandates that forced people to choose between their livelihoods and freedom of choice. Rebekah Barnet has the full story
  • Covid and flu and vaccines don’t reduce hospitalisation, according to a recent preprint study from Steve Kirsch et al
  • Children aged 5-11, who were given two doses of Pfizer’s mRNA covid shot were found to have increased levels of IgG4 antibodies 1 year following their second jab, suggesting their immune system’s tolerance has been compromised, potentially leaving them more vulnerable to infections and other health issues. Researchers publishing in The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal raise a red flag as more and more mRNA vaccines are slated to hit the global market in the coming years, with little to no safety checks or data.
