Cochrane and mammogram calamities

Read the words 'Gøtzsche', 'Cochrane' and 'mammograms' in the same sentence and you probably have already assumed that controversy is imminent. Given, you've just read all three of these words, you'll find below links to two stories this week that intimately link these controversial words.

We're not talking marginalised controversy either. We're talking full-blown mainstream controversy. That means you're as likely to find heavyweight actors in mainstream medicine who rate Dr Peter Gøtzsche as a poster boy for scientific integrity in medicine, and who also question the integrity of Cochrane, and the value of routine mammogram screening - as finding those who have the opposite views.

We're not going to try to hide our views and we hope that if you haven't already formulated views on these important issues, the information you read might help you to make up your mind. As is so often the case in the areas in which we work - there is a dearth of adequate information that allows people to make truly informed choices. We know it happens in politics - but it also happens in healthcare - especially when it comes to less pharmaceutically-dependent healthcare.
