Life’s just a game, say our masters

I’m pretty sure we’ve identified some of the most important pieces of the jigsaw puzzle of our current era. In our lead article this week, I join together a picture I’ve created from these jigsaw pieces and it’s not pretty. It’s one that places our species on a road to nowhere – worse, to deliberate, self-destruction, where runaway AI, neurotech and censorship, conspire to merge our human and digital worlds. I urge you to read it and share it.

Our second piece exposes the 12 companies – yes, another ‘dirty dozen’ – that are responsible for most of the world’s manufacture of PFAS ‘forever chemicals’. They’re playing another game, one we liken to Whac-A-Mole, as they switch out long-chain PFAS that are banned or coming under regulatory pressure, with shorter chain, less studied versions that will end up being used in greater quantities because they’re less persistent than their long-chain brethren.

These two stories link up because PFAS compounds are viewed as being instrumental to the fourth, AI- and technology-driven revolution that’s well and truly now kicked off good and proper.
