Pharma battlelines and summer joy

It’s not often we use our heartbeat newsletter cover to draw attention to our weekly international news roundup before telling you about our feature pieces. This week is one of those exceptions. If anyone is getting complacent – now’s the time to stop. Anti-natural health interests, loosely the corporatocracy that’s arranged around some of the largest pharma, biotech, agribiz and tech companies in the world are on one of the greatest take-over bids any of us have yet to experience. The paradox is that this is happening at the very time that the scientific evidence weighs heavily in favour of natural health.

It’s also getting very personal. The fate of British scientist Lyn Thyer and business owner David Noakes – both centrally involved in developing a natural medicine containing Gc-MAF – is astonishing in terms of the trumped up charges and punitive action being taken against two individuals. In a different world, their achievements could have been celebrated. Lyn is presently on a hunger strike in Bronzefield jail awaiting extradition to the French legal system where her fate would be unlikely to be a good one. David Noakes faces criminal proceedings in the Crown Court on Friday. To help correct these injustices and support the habeas corpus writ that was served last week there are things we can all do – and that includes writing to the new Ministers for the Home Department and Justice in the UK, Priti Patel and Robert Buckland, respectively.

Our lead piece by one of the world’s leading authorities on bioidentical hormones as used especially in women’s health is another example of a pharma battlefront.

But it’s summer, at least in the northern hemisphere. So we also bring you summer joy by video and some recipes. A pause and a spot of reflection at this time of year helps many of us plan for the months that will follow.

In my case, that’s what I’ll be doing so I’ll be signing off for a couple of weeks to charge my own batteries, get some family time – and plan for what’s coming!
