Reframe your healthspan
Yesterday, I asked my 92-year-old father and 89-year-old mother, does it seem to them that the world has gone mad of late. Having been taken aback by so many recent world events, be they political, social, economic or environmental, I felt that the insights from two people who’ve had direct experience of nearly a full century of life, would be valuable. Especially given they are still of sound mind, they appear capable of maintaining objectivity and humility, and are unusually up-to-date with world affairs. What they said was that the world hasn’t gone mad. Instead, they suggested that people are overloaded with too much information, and people no longer have the time and space in their lives to process it. That means they can’t truly rationalise their decisions or views and they then have no option but to take a punt on views that might feel right to them, but they hold these views without having weighed up all the available information. That was the backdrop for my blog that you’ll find below. Musings on a society where so many people are operating off their animal instincts, and being unable to engage with reason or rationality, or use adequately those parts of the brain we’ve evolved over the last half million or so years. In our second piece, we introduce a new health hack video series – this one on how we can use the domains we describe in our sustainable health blueprint to extend our healthspan, the number of years we spend in good health. In our weekly news – we include how NHS health data have been passed over to Google, predictions that cancer rates will continue to surge, studies that show that diet can cure depression and that fasted training before breakfast burns twice the amount of fat than training after eating.
