Unpicking keto diets and autoimmunity

Commerce is the dominant force that defines how most people live on this delicate planet of ours. Most of us didn’t design the cars we drive, the computers we use, the houses we live in, or the clothes we wear. Similarly, most of the healthcare that’s offered to most people, based heavily on drugs and surgery, is a reflection of what commerce has created for us.

The trouble is, it doesn’t work that well for an increasing range of conditions. And if the condition you suffer from doesn’t have a commercial solution for it, chances are you won’t find you’ll get a lot of meaningful help from the medical establishment.

The two areas we focus on this week fall exactly into that category: obesity and associated nutrition-related disorders like type 2 diabetes on one hand, and autoimmune diseases on the other. They just happen to be among the biggest problems faced by society, but none of these diseases or conditions have drug or surgical solutions. That means the public is left to its own devices, most succumbing to these diseases, and a few being guided back to health, either through their own efforts or with the guidance of enlightened practitioners.

This week we take you on something of a journey. I have deconstructed a recently published paper that was starting to create ripples of unrest among those dedicated to or contemplating moving to a ketogenic diet. Next, through the written word and assisted by video, you’ll be taken through one person’s life-long journey of learning and experience with, and then out of, autoimmune disease. In it, you’ll find information that isn’t taught at medical schools, yet is at the cutting edge of particular branches of the medical and noetic sciences. That person is Meleni Aldridge, our executive coordinator of 15 years and you’ll find out some invaluable clinical pearls delivered when she presented at the Get Well Show in London some 10 days ago. You’ll also find my second presentation from the same show on our low carb evolutionary eating plan.

Finally, you’ll find our weekly news roundup, including the push by leading US scientists for an abolition of limits on saturated fat, a report that exposes Pharma influence on US politics, EU MEP support for food supplements, the WHO’s partnership with the AYUSH ministry in India, and the obesity and early-onset dementia explosions in the US.

In health, naturally…
