When business isn’t so sweet
It’s #ThrowbackThursday – and actually we’ve got just one throwback this week, the second story being new. The throwback relates a sweetener industry-funded piece of research that’s meant to undo the sleuth of studies that have shown calorie-free sweeteners not only muck with our brains, they also muck with our guts. In particular the ecosystem of microbes within that we depend on for our health. The second piece is on an issue that’s increasingly disturbing. It suggests that the left and right hands of mainstream medicine don’t seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to managing one of the most burdensome yet preventable diseases, and the seventh leading cause of death worldwide: type 2 diabetes. If you’ve heard you shouldn’t be testing your own blood sugar or your doctor won’t any longer test your fasted blood sugar, you might want to ignore the advice or do your own tests. You’ll find out why in our story… You have probably not missed the release of the EAT-Lancet Commission report that’s created headlines around the world proposing a massive cut back on meat-eating to save the planet and our species. It’s definitely got legs and a broad base of support, it’s definitely controversial, and it definitely warrants some careful analysis that’s still in process. We’ll be releasing a special report on it next week. In health – naturally, Robert Verkerk PhD Founder, executive & scientific director
