  • Consumption of moderate amounts of red meat plays an important nutritional role in our diets. A new review published in Animal, acknowledges the critical role red meat played in our evolution as a source of high-quality protein, micronutrients and essential fatty acids. Depsite meat's continued role as an essential source of nutrients, authorities continue to push people towards eating fewer and fewer animal products. Meat eating has been demonised in recent decades due to its perceived environmental impact and potential risk to health, yet no distinction is made between intensive and inhumane livestock farming and regenerative livestock farming - much of which is carbon neutral. Meat remains an essential dietary component for many across the globe.

  • Vaping causes similar damage to people’s DNA as smokers who develop cancer, according to new research, published in Cancer Research, which raises further concerns over the supposed safety of vaping. The researchers compared cheek and cervical cells, along with blood samples from people who smoke or vape, finding similar changes to the DNA in the cells in both groups.

  • Adopting a keto diet protects brain health and reduces our risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. A recent mouse study, published in Communications Biology, found that mice given a keto diet had increased levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), which had a protective effect and was amplified in female mice
  • A tsunami of precision fermented foods are being unleashed on unsuspecting consumers as eyewatering sums of money are poured into their development. Such foods are being marketed with extremely slick websites and social media that seek to reassure consumers of the safety and planet-friendly credentials of these new-to-nature products. New players include Nukoko, which is using broad beans to create ‘chocolate’, Bored Cow's milk substitute (which has been found to contain 92 compounds previously unknown to science), Upside Foods (lab-grown chicken), and Checkerspot, which is fermenting microalgae to produce an essential fat found in breastmilk, are amongst the growing number of start-ups all trying to convince consumers fermed food products are the answer to saving the planet and feeding humanity.

  • Uruguay is bucking the trend of governments that are deregulating gene edited (GE) organisms by establishing a new Technical Working Group that will take a cautious approach to determining whether individual products or organisms obtained from GE techniques should be classified under existing regulations covering genetically modified organisms. It’s a step in the right direction but one that Big Biotech could potentially corrupt for its own benefit
  • A new review, commissioned by Health Canada and published in Critical Reviews in Toxicology, adds to the plethora of science showing that water fluoridation lowers children’s IQ. The authors of the study also found that as well as a reduction in IQ, fluoridation also causes dental fluorosis
  • Nearly 3.5 billion people around the world are suffering from a neurological condition including autism, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The increase in such neurological conditions has also been associated with an increase in premature deaths, according a new study published in The Lancet Neurology. The study uses data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021.

  • The dangers of highly toxic chemicals commonly used in cleaning and personal care products along with fire retardant chemicals are brought to the fore in a new study published in Nature Neuroscience. The study links quaternary ammonium compounds, known as Quats, along with organophosphate flame retardants to the development of neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis and autism.

  • A Judge in an ongoing media lawsuit in Spain ordered a temporary block of social media app, Telegram, until it provides information required by court, as it adjudicates a case alleging the app is allowing copyrighted information to be shared freely
  • Prolonged fasting has multiple positive impacts on our health according to a new study published in Nature Metabolism. Using a 7-day water fast, the researchers discovered nine new ways the body reacts to not eating for a period of time. Significant changes only became apparent after three days of not eating, while the changes seen involved a wide range of bodily functions.

  • News that smart meters are prone to error won’t come as a surprise if you’re a long-time supporter of our work. Recent news has revealed that over 4 million devices in the UK aren’t working properly causing extensive billing errors
  • UK regulator Ofgem has launched a consultation to develop a variable price cap to meet Net Zero requirements, which would utilise smart meter technology. This would scrap the current energy price cap and switch the country to ‘time-of-use’ tariffs that charge different prices depending on the time of day, availability of ‘green energy’ sources such as wind and solar and the cost of energy. Ofgem is inviting views on its proposals by 6 May 2024
  • Fertility rates are dropping rapidly around the globe. More than half of all countries, as at 2021, now have birth rates below replacement level. Published in The Lancet, a new study warns that over three-quarters of countries will experience dropping popuplations by 2025. By 2100 97% of countries globally will be affected.

  • The US Congress is fast-tracking legislation that would effectively ban TikTok in the US. That’s not all, the legislation would also give the President the power to ban any other app or platform owned by a so-called ‘foreign adversary’ if it were deemed to be a national security threat. Adoption of the Bill would put the US on a slippery slope to ever greater levels of authoritarian control over Americans' ability to communicate via the internet. Covid Update

  • The Australian Senate has supported a motion calling for an inquiry into Australia’s continued high levels of excess mortality. The vote comes in support of Senator Ralph Babet’s fifth motion calling for an inquiry. The Community Affairs References Committee will now be given the task of investigating what might be contributing to the sustained rise in excess mortality
  • Following his discovery of DNA contamination in mRNA covid shots, genomic researcher, Kevin McKernan, has found that this DNA can potentially integrate into human DNA. His research using cancer cells, is presented on his Substack. He cautions that further detailed research is required to confirm the initial findings
  • In a landmark case, brought by three US doctors who claimed that the FDA was interfering with their ability to practice medicine, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has settled the case and agreed to remove all social media posts and consumer directives regarding its attacks on the use of ivermectin to treat covid. The court said that the FDA doesn’t have authority to recommend consumers stop using medications or give medical advice in “tweet-sized doses
  • The Louisiana State Senate has unanimously passed a Bill to protect state sovereignty, autonomy and local governance. Senate Bill 133 is designed the thwart plans by the World Health Organization and others to impose its will on people globally in the event of another pandemic. The Bill states “...the World Health Organization, United Nations, and the World Economic Forum shall have no jurisdiction or power within the state of Louisiana.” The Bill now needs to pass through the House before it can enter into law.
