On one hand governments are trying to issue diktats about how much we should eat in their apparent efforts to deal with skyrocketing obesity and diabetes. They’re opposed to approaches the public like whenever they work, low carb diets being a case in point. On the other hand, they’re trying to eliminate uncommon infectious diseases by vaccinating as many children as they can. Given increased ‘vaccine hesitancy’, the European Commission has launched a public consultation – and we’d strongly urge anyone living in the EU to submit your views electronically – as biased as the EC’s questionnaire is. We’ve included a dummy version with our proposed answers to help you.
Coming back to calorie counting policies and vaccination - both approaches are flawed or grossly inadequate, at least on their own. Most of the real action and change in terms of people’s health is coming from the grassroots. Health authorities are increasingly seen as irrelevant when it comes to real health advice and information, as well as being seen to be in the back pockets of massive corporations.
