All the speakers will introduce subjects that can be undertaken now – at least somewhere in the world. No theories or pure research, but rather what is practical and doable to aid the prevention of disease and the regeneration of ageing individuals.
Rob’s presentation will focus on: Why We ‘Run Out of Fuel’ with Age—and How to Reverse It: NO, Muscle, and Bioenergetics
Abstract:
Aging muscles literally begin to “run out of fuel” because nitric oxide signalling, vascular health, neuromuscular signalling and mitochondrial bioenergetics progressively decline, especially in sedentary people. This talk will unpack how reduced nitric oxide bioavailability, impaired mitochondrial function, and decreased multi-system signalling drive sarcopenia, fatigue, immune dysregulation and loss of resilience—and why specific forms of lifelong physical activity can be critical to preserving the function of these systems. It will then explore evidence-informed strategies, from targeted exercise to dietary and lifestyle approaches that support nitric oxide production, mitochondrial fitness and competent signalling to help reverse this bioenergetic decline.
