Natural News

  • A major Cochrane review has concluded that anti-amyloid drugs offer no clinically meaningful benefit to Alzheimer’s patients. Examining data from 17 clinical trials involving over 20,000 participants, researchers found the drugs’ effects on cognitive decline and dementia severity were absent or trivial. They can increase the risk of brain swelling and bleeding, likely because the brain produces amyloid beta as part of a natural system protecting the brain from bleeds, infection and regulating synaptic function. The good news is there’s plenty that can be done to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease in the first place using natural options.
  • Eating meat may reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer’s according to a new Swedish study published in JAMA Network Open. There is a but. The research only applies to those carrying the APOE4 gene variant, a genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s. On the flip side, what the researchers don’t explicitly state, is that eating no or very low amounts of meat could increase risk. The new study does provide yet more evidence that what, when and how we eat is very individual and that eating a wide and diverse range of foods overall is health protective. Gary Taubes has more about the new study.
  • Nearly a third of clinical trials that should legally report results have failed to do so, leaving thousands of studies effectively hidden from public view according a news release from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This leaves doctors, patients, and other researchers with an incomplete picture of how treatments really perform. This isn’t a minor administrative lapse but a systemic failure that distorts the evidence base, because when negative or inconclusive findings go unreported, medicines can appear safer and more effective than they truly are. The consequence is a profound erosion of informed consent and scientific integrity.
  • A year-long public dialogue conducted by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has found that British families are deeply concerned about the health risks of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) but feel they are being kept in the dark about their harms due to a lack of clear evidence. The data shows 63.5% of calories eaten by UK children and 68% of those eaten by UK adolescents came from UPFs frighteningly high compared to countries like France (14%) and Italy (13%).
  • The link between poor gut and the development of Parkinson’s has been known about for many years. A new study published in Nature Medicine adds to the evidence that alterations in the gut microbiome increase the risk of developing Parkinson’s in genetically susceptible people. It also reinforces the importance of nurturing a healthy gut microbiome to reduce the risk of developing a range of neuroinflammatory diseases as we age.

  • Timing your workouts to match your natural body clock could significantly boost heart health benefits, according to a new study published in Open Heart. Researchers found that participants who exercised during their natural alertness window — whether morning or evening — had better outcomes for blood pressure, heart rate variability, cholesterol, and sleep quality than those who exercised at the opposite time. The findings point towards a simple, personalised approach to exercise that works with your biology rather than against it.
  • The Cambridge Social Decision-Making Lab, headed up by Prof Sander van der Linden, is up to its old tricks. This time it’s to ‘inoculate’ teens against online health misinformation. Its new game ‘Bad Vaxx’ offers young people the opportunity to “expose the tactics and manipulation techniques that are used to mislead people around the theme of vaccinations and medical misinformation”. Players can participate either as an anti-vax villain or pro-vaccine hero exposing misinformation. A study published in Scientific Reports by the game’s developers last year, concludes the game can increase resilience against misinformation. In a recent publication in Nature (read it here), van der Linden endorses the introduction of ‘social media passports’ to teach children how to identify ‘misinformation’ and control their access to online platforms rather than introducing a complete ban. However, this and the game are blatant attempts to manipulate, coral and control young people when they are at their most vulnerable instead of aiding them to develop critical thinking skills that would allow them to form their own judgements.

  • A groundbreaking, 10-year French study, published in Plant Disease, shows it’s possible for pesticide-free agriculture to thrive. Rés0Pest used systems that excluded all pesticide use, although it continued use of synthetic fertilisers. Yields comparable to conventional and higher than organic were achieved. The study kicks arguments that it’s not possible to feed the world without pesticides into the long, insect-rich, grass. Pesticide Action Network Europe has the detail.
  • EU Foreign Affairs Ministers have endorsed deregulation of food and seeds created using New Genomic Techniques (NGTs). NGTs won’t need to be labelled or undergo current safety checks. It’s noteworthy that it’s foreign ministers and not those responsible for agriculture or the environment that are spearheading the deregulation. Slovakian organisation, quid est VERITAS and Slovakia without GMO, are calling for partners to sign-on to support a formal legal challenge to stop the deregulation of gene edited organisms in the EU. ANH-USA Update

  • Listen a powerful new message from ANH General Counsel, Jonathan Emord, on why we need to restore health freedom in America, then sign The Arizona Statement to protect your right to make decision about your health.
  • A new US Bill, the Dietary Supplement Listing Act, is being presented as a transparency initiative, but in practice it risks functioning as a de facto premarket approval system for supplements. The added compliance burden would fall most heavily on smaller and more innovative supplement companies, potentially accelerating market consolidation and reducing the availability of niche or practitioner-grade products. At the same time, a centralised FDA registry could be used to selectively target and remove certain supplements, while doing little to address illegal or adulterated products that already bypass existing regulations. Take action to protect your access to dietary supplements.
  • Access to some of the most promising emerging therapies in modern medicine, in the US, is in peril. Behind the scenes, federal regulators are making decisions right now that could determine whether patients and practitioners can access natural peptide bioregulators—or whether those treatments are effectively pushed out of reach and into pharmaceutical monopolies or unregulated grey markets. Protect access to compounded peptides.

Free Speech Threats

  • Security consultant, Paul Moore, posting on X, has claimed that he hacked the new EU age verification app in under 2 minutes leaving users data wide open. He described the app’s architecture as fundamentally broken at its core. Following his posts the EU released a patch to address the issues he raised, which he slammed as “utter security theatre”.

Post-covid related

  • A German court has ordered BioNTech to hand over internal data on its Comirnaty mRNA covid vaccine, affirming that individuals claiming harm have the right to access the manufacturer’s own records to challenge its safety claims and pursue damages. While not a final liability ruling, the decision is being seen as a landmark shift — directly addressing the core imbalance where injured individuals have been expected to prove causation while being denied access to the very data needed to do so.
  • A Freedom of Information request, which forced the release of adverse event report data, in the UK has triggered a new analysis of adverse report (AER) data of covid jab AER reports. It reveals a shocking picture where 1 in 7 of the reports received by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Yellow Card reporting system were classified serious. Dr Clare Craig shares the fight to get the MHRA to hand over internal AER data and the results of the new analysis.
